The Pittsburgh Penguins have gotten approval from the city planning commission for the new arena and Point Park University has announced a $210 million plan for expansion in it’s downtown Pittsburgh campus.

The Penguins made a few changes to arena plans and got a unanimous vote of approval. This will allow construction to begin this summer, with a finished product expected for the hockey season of 2010-2011.

Point Park University is making its mark on the downtown Pittsburgh with a proposed “Academic Village.” Their expansion includes relocating the Pittsburgh Playhouse to downtown from it’s current home in Oakland, along with numerous other planned projects.
With the announcement of these two undertakings on two opposite sides of downtown, this is a very exciting day for Pittsburgh. These two substantial projects are going to provide more vibrancy, more jobs, more development, and more hope to the downtown Pittsburgh market.
